This is a translation/summary for TYPE-MOON's Mahoutsukai no Hako - Starlit Marmalade Drama CD Volume 2. If you like this, I strongly encourage you to buy the CD for yourself, which you can do via Amazon.co.jp here. As usual, this translation is copyright 2024 by Heavens-Feel.com - feel free to link to it on your blog or site, but please don't host it there. This Drama CD, like old time radio dramas, relies on dialogue, sound effects, and music to build up atmosphere and tell a story. Audio dramas like this one continue to be useful as a medium for telling storylines from tv anime, manga, VNs, or videogames. I hope that you enjoy this summary of Mahoutsukai no Hako - Starlit Marmalade vol 2. If you like it, please consider making a donation to help the site continue running. Returning characters are listed here. As more get introduced in the story, they'll also be featured in this cast list. I use Japanese name order and retain Japanese honorifics in this text. Since Katsuragi Chidori and Katsuragi Chikagi have the same family name, Chidori will be listed as Chidori in the script text. If you see a line attributed to Katsuragi, it's for Chikagi, who is one of the main characters in this. You can navigate throughout this document by clicking on different tracks from the selection here. To completely understand the story, start on Track 1 of Disc 1 and continue on from there. The track that you're on will be indicated in boldface._______________________________________________________________________________ Cast of Characters:

Disc 2, Track 3 - Racing the Night 2 [SCENE: Katsuragi rushes down the pavement. She stops for a moment to catch her breath.] Katsuragi: (breathing heavily) I've been rushing about all day today! But there's no way she'd come here, right? [A weird, eerie sound is heard.] Katsuragi: At night, parks look creepy. [She begins walking again.] Katsuragi: Huh? Why am I walking in the opposite direction? [Another strange sound is heard. This time another high-pitched tone overlays it.] Katsuragi: Did I start going in the opposite direction without realizing it? Wh-what is this? This is wrong! Why are my legs doing this? (dissociated) It's so hot. Feels like I'm melting. The scenery in front of my eyes . . . looks so strange. Like I'm looking in a funhouse mirror. (she walks for a bit, her footsteps echoing) So weird. There's no way . . . a door would be here. [she reaches for the door knob, but then a jolt of electricity jumps from the door knob to her hand. She is thrown back, pain causing her to snap out of the earlier mesmerism.] Katsuragi: Hey! What the heck was that!? [we hear her heartbeat] Oh. Ah! Why - why am I getting a headache now? Ah. Owwww. [She realizes that someone is walking toward her, their footsteps quietly breaking the stillness of the night.] Someone else is here. [Marie steps out of the darkness and reveals herself.] Marie: [She looks and sounds different from before. She also sounds emotionally distant.] Yes. Why is someone like you concerned about her? I asked because I don't understand. Ohhh. I get it now. You're the only key for opening the labyrinth's garden. Katsuragi: Who are you? Did we meet somewhere before? Marie: Why don't you come with me? It's different from what I was seeking, but she'll surely want to find you. Katsuragi: I'll pass. I'm busy right now. Ask me next time. [On the soundtrack, a sustained creepy tone is heard. It's not unlike the ambience you'd hear while exploring an abandoned house in the Project Zero/Fatal Frame series.] Marie: (laughs) You're really funny. Katsuragi: Wait. Is your hand - shining? Marie: It doesn't look like she's using an art. It's probably okay if I leave the gate behind. But then again, we have to keep the secret from her. Katsuragi: What is she saying? [Something flies in and crashes nearby.] Katsuragi: What's that? Marie: Oh, you're here. Katsuragi: A pure white . . . child? Hibino (Triten): Get away from her. Marie: You don't need to make that scary face. This is the first time I meet you in that form. Katsuragi: Oh, you two know each other? Well, don't involve me in whatever this is. Marie: Getting to know each other over food is nice, but there's a better way for us to understand one another. Isn't that right? Nee-san? Hibino (Triten): Onee-san? Marie: That's right! Hibino (Triten): [Leaps into the air, away from their current location] Marie: You don't have to run away. Here! [fires magical blasts at Hibino (Triten)] Hib: Mana . . . and lots of it. Gonna stop it [charges and fires her own blast] Now break! [destroys the shot in midair with her own] Marie: How about this one? [fires more which are dodged by Hibino (Triten)] Amazing. You could even avoid those. Nee-san is great. I might even be having fun. Hibino (Triten): Why are you doing this? You said I was your older sister. Marie: (giggles) That's right. It'd be faster if I showed you than trying to explain. Hibino (Triten): Show me? What? Her chest is glowing. Marie: Nee-san will understand. What's inside, and what it is. Hibino (Triten): I get it. Your body is artificial, and your real form is inside your chest. Marie: Magic and religious faith. The ones seeking a fusion of the two couldn't stop and made the one Phantasm in the world. It wasn't the one known in God's language with excerpts of gratitude . It was more than that. Hibino (Triten): It didn't have a physical form. Marie: Completed hundreds of years ago, hidden away in the labyrinth. The Seiten. Humans, using the rare few scraps of paper, experimented. Aiming for a revival. And that was - Hibino (Triten): Was what? You? Marie: The fake, Mirabilis. I was born to be the same kind of existence as nee-san. So, we're like sisters. But it's still not enough. Like a lost manuscript, there's a fragment left. The brilliance inside nee-san . . . if we could become one, my existence would be perfected, I think. Hibino (Triten): You - Mirabilis. That is - Marie: Do you doubt me? That's all right. If we become one, you won't be lonely anymore. We'll eliminate the loneliness of this world. Hibino (Triten): There is something I want to ask you. Marie: That's fine. What is it? Hibino (Triten): What do you intend to do with that girl? Marie: That girl? Oh, you mean that human from before. Yes, yes, yes. I'm the only one who knows this. I'm willing to keep it a secret. But neither I nor nee-san should be around those living things. Hibino (Triten): Oh. As I thought, you and I are different. If you lay a hand on her . . . I'll have to stop you. (charges magical energy) Marie: (laughs) I don't like it if you get that angry. You can't stop me that easily anyway. [Marie launches herself into the air, trailing dirt, loose gravel, etc.] (laughs) [her voice becomes quieter as she leaves the area] Sorry, nee-san. I have to go check on that troubled girl. We'll meet again at school. Hibino (Triten): [walks over to Chikagi] Katsuragi: (coughs, woozy) Today's been a real roller coaster. Hibino (Triten): Hey. It's dangerous to be here. Katsuragi: That I got. Hibino (Triten): Yes. You've had enough today. I think you should go home. [Chikagi realizes something.] What is it? Katsuragi: You - I've met you before somewhere. Hibino (Triten): Ah. Katsuragi: Somewhere before. A while ago. Where was that? Hibino (Triten): [delivers a chop, knocking out Chikagi] I'm sorry. But it's fine. You don't have to remember that.
