Sarashina called out to her. Chikagi told her good morning, but with a tired voice, which puzzled Sarashina. Sarashina stated that Chikagi currently had an interesting face, and Chikagi explained that she had been busy with the event. Chikagi stated that she was glad Sarashina arrived when she did. Yesterday, Sarashina went to the neighboring city. Chikagi asked her for verification of this fact. Sarashina said Chikagi should be more careful when choosing friends, and that she had awareness as Chidori-san's little sister. Chikagi observed it wasn't Sarashina's place to point that out. Sarashina's verbal riposte was that it had nothing to do with her after all. Chikagi told her to stop and said that she had overlooked Sarashina's previous troublesome actions, but that if Sarashina had any intention of doing something to those people . . . Sarashina said that Chikagi was scary, and making accusations without proof, causing her trouble. Sarashina pointed out that they were going to be late for homeroom. Sarashina then excused herself and ran off. Dang it, though Chikagi, and wondered why she was getting so angry. The chime rang. Kureida Clara was in the classroom. She stated that she loved noisy and jumpy animals. Sarashina greeted her and noted that Mayuzumi Mayuko was still not there. Clara agreed. Chikagi observed that it was unusual for Mayuzumi to be late. It was Hibino Hibiki. The door to the classroom rushed open and someone rushed to a desk, saying she had no idea about the time, calling Chikagi Chika-chan, which Chikagi dislikes. Hibino gave Chikagi a package. Hibino had worn her uwabaki (indoor school slippers) home, and had forgotten to reclaim her street shoes from her shoe locker. She had also overlooked the letter inside the shoe locker, which she thought Chikagi had left for her. Chikagi said there were many opportunities for her to make critical remarks, but that she would refrain from doing so. Hibino also said that she hadn't read the letter in the box that Chikagi had put there. She wondered about the letter that had also been in the shoe box. Hibiki thought it was a letter from Chikagi to her. Chikagi denied all knowledge of it, and then asked what the letter was about. "There's something I really want to talk to the two of you about. Keep this a secret. Would you please meet with me tonight? The place is-" Chikagi told her to stop, and that she hadn't written the letter. She snatched away the letter, which surprised Hibiki. Chikagi read the letter and then seemed disgusted, or at least upset. She was upset that her name was written in the letter, that Mayuzumi did not user her family name when referring to her, and did not like the listed meet-up time, which was nine at night. Being told to go there at that time would make anyone feel uncomfortable. Then Chikagi realized that the letter smelled like a flower. The classroom door opened and a teacher called for Mayuzumi, who still wasn't there. Clara wondered if something had happened to her. The teacher said she had received a call from Mayuzumi's mother. Mayuzumi didn't come home the other night. Then the teacher gave everyone the period to use for self-study, and said that anyone who knew where Mayuzumi was needed to come to the teachers' room. Clara noted that the other day, they had gone home together, so perhaps they should tell the teachers that. Hibino agreed. They discussed what they had done, which included going to a cake all you can eat place. Meanwhile, Sarashina opened her locker and found a note. She thought it might be another love letter, and that her mood had improved by its being there, even if she didn't like it that much. Sarashina opened the letter and thought that it would be appropriate to write a response. She giggled, but then her laugh took on a darker and more menacing tone. Thinking over the content of the letter, Hibino walked down the road. The meet-up spot is the campus pool. Meet at nine PM. Please come by yourselves. Katsuragi wondered why she had gone to the area. Chigaki came across Hibino, and asked her what she was doing walking there by herself. Hibino giggled, but Chikagi said she didn't need her. Hibino observed how lonely and dark the night was, but then brightened, saying if a person has someone else to walk with, he or she can cut the fear of the night by about fifty percent. Chikagi said she didn't need to try to lighten the mood. Climbing the fence, Hibino remarked that she was fine even if she was by herself. Hibino again insisted that to be alone means a person will feel loneliness, and that she had come to see if there was anything she could do to help out. She also pointed out that the two of them could go to a cake all you can eat place if they felt like it. Chikagi told her to stop joking and get serious, for talking like that at the moment was a bother. Chikagi also told her that she hated people who acted like that. Hibino was shocked, and then Chikagi told her that with things being as they are, Hibino should probably just go home. With that, Chikagi walked away. The two girls steps made crunching noises in the gravel. Chikagi reminded Hibino that she had told, and was telling her to, go home already. Hibino laughed, and said as the recipient of the letter, she thought she ought to go and check it out, and that she hadn't set out to follow Chikagi. Chikagi told her to get serious and stop trying to inject silliness into the situation. In an exaggerated way, Hibino accepted, flashing and doing some kind of promise or charm pose in the manner of a magical girl. Chikagi thought that Hibino was hopeless. They arrived at the pool and found that the lights were on. Chikagi thought that they might have been late. The gate squealed, the sound of metal sliding against metal, as the girls went into the area. Hibino commented on how the water in the pool looked dirty. Hibino wondered if the pool was no longer in use. Chikagi observed that they were in a cold area, so they didn't need to worry about that. Soon spring would begin, but until the weather warmed up there wouldn't be many swimmers. A lady called out to them. "Chikagi! Aren't you late? I've been waiting for you for a while." Chikagi apologized, and explained that it had been hard for her because Hibino had insisted on coming along. The lady noticed that they weren't alone. Chikagi said not to worry about it because Hibino had been forbidden to speak. Hibino said that Chikagi was being mean. The lady then said, "Okay, what did you want to talk about?" and then unfolded a letter, revealing herself to be Sarashina. "It must be an important matter indeed," said Sarashina. Chikagi said that the letter was received by Hibino, and that if Sarashina didn't want it, she should consider giving it back. Sarashina smiled and said then it was her doing, and that she shouldn't doubt that Sarashina was being honest, and that Chikagi was uncute for doing so. Sarashina also said it was strange that another person wasn't present, for that person was very fond of Chikagi. Hibino said she didn't send the letter, and then Chikagi asked her to hush. Chikagi then sighed, getting to the point. She asked Sarashina to tell her where Mayuzumi was. Mayuzumi answered in a playful voice, stating that she did not know where Mayuzumi was, or if she was present. Chikagi repeated that Mayuzumi had gone missing last night, that Mayuzumi was her classmate, and the previous afternoon, they had gone to a cake all you can eat place. Sarashina said it sounded like a fun afternoon. Continuing, Chikagi related how they had met Chidori by coincidence, and that now it looked like the Chidori fan club seemed to be getting short on members. Chikagi said that she didn't know how Sarashina did it, but the disappearances (Chidori and Mayuzumi) had to be her doing. Surprisingly, Sarashina confessed. Hibino was shocked - not only that Sarashina was the culprit, but that she admitted to it openly and honestly. Chikagi again told Hibino to zip it. Sarashina said Hibino and Chikagi were mean, and secretly meeting with Chidori, and that she couldn't forgive the girls for excluding her. Then Sarashina asked Chikagi what she thought about all of this. Chikagi didn't care, and went back to business, asking Sarashina where Mayuzumi was. Sarashina revealed that Mayuzumi said she wanted to be friends with Chikagi. Sarashina, madness creeping in on her voice, said that Mayuzumi absolutely had to be lying. Hibino was again surprised, and Chikagi as usual asked Hibino to be quiet. Sarashina wanted to know why Mayuzumi wanted to be closer to Chikagi. Sarashina speculated that doing so would allow Mayuzumi to be closer to Chidori. Chikagi said that all of this was Sarashina's idle conjecture, and that Sarashina was projecting her own desires onto others. Sarashina grew angrier, asking Chikagi who she thought she was addressing. She said that in addition to being Chidori's little sister, she even pretended to be friends with Hibino and Chikagi, ladies with no value at all. That was worth being grateful for, wasn't it? Chikagi said she didn't think of Sarashina as a friend. Sarashina observed that Chikagi had gone and said it. Chikagi also said she would refuse to spend time with Sarashina or be around her. For Chikagi, being alone worked just fine, and that she really didn't need friends. Sarashina's composure cracked, and she told Chikagi to stop screwing with her, and that Chikagi didn't understand anything. Chikagi, as calm as ever, asked if they could end the conversation. Suddenly Hibino raced over to Chikagi. Hibino was upset, and said she wanted to be friends with Chikagi. She wanted to walk home with Chikagi everyday, and eat ice cream together, and hang out with her. Chikagi asked her to stop talking about that. Hibino said that if Chikagi said she didn't like her, she'd start to dislike Chikagi too! After all, ever since they met, Chikagi had been no. 1 for her. Chikagi was extremely surprised and not sure how to take Hibino's statement. She asked Hibino to calm down so they could discuss this in a relaxed way, and said that they had only known each other for a short time. Chikagi seemed extremely troubled by Hibino's declaration, and Hibino apologized for upsetting her. Hibino said she didn't want to lie to herself, after all, she felt so strongly for Chikagi. Becoming even more flustered, Chikagi asked her not to say any more. Hibino said that she was praising Chikagi, as she was her dearest friend. Chikagi seemed confused, and responded with a puzzled "Hai?" Hibino said that Chikagi was her closest friend. Chikagi calmed down in response to that explanation. Sarashina, angry at being ignored, told them to cut it out. She told Chikagi that she should not believe what Hibino just said, and that Chikagi would be betrayed if she did. Chikagi laughed it off, leaving Sarashina wondering what was funny. Chikagi said that Hibino could not use those kinds of underhanded tactics. After all, Hibino was different from Sarashina, which made Hibino puff up with pride. Sarashina said that wasn't a compliment, and to stop it. After overthinking so many things, Chikagi said that she felt like she was becoming dumber. Chikagi also told Sarashina that it was time to end things. No matter what Sarashina attempted, Chidori wasn't going to become hers. No one wanted to become Sarashina's ally. Chikagi pointed out that it would be good to give back the missing girls before this became a bigger incident. Sarashina was appalled at the idea of the others hanging out with Chikagi and Hibino. Chikagi said it didn't matter. Chidori would decide for herself what to do and who to associate with. Sarashina couldn't accept that. Hibino sniffed the air and asked what the strange scent was. Chikagi at first attempted to change the subject, but she too detected the malodorous stench - a cloying, sweet stink. Chikagi tried to think of what it might be. Sarashina confirmed their suspicions - it was the scent of a certain flower. Up until a moment ago, they hadn't smelled it. Sarashina smugly observed that Chikagi had been looking for the missing girls, and then said that Sarashina would allow Chikagi to meet them. A terrible splashing noise came from the pool. Hibino yelled for Chikagi to look behind herself. A dull, groaning figure made slopping noises as it dragged its wet, filthy feet towards them. Chikagi saw that it was Mayuzumi, and said that she was glad Mayuzumi was fine, but why did she come out of the pool!? There was another splash as more beings came out of the pool. More groaning people rose from the depths. They were the other members of Chidori's fan club - Kodama and Yamaochi. Why did these people come out of the dark depths of the pool? Their teacher was there too! Chikagi scolded them, saying it was too early for any of them to be swimming. Sarashina said that these people had become puppets that she could control, and they would obey any order she gave them. When they weren't following orders, they stopped moving and went to sleep. That's why Sarashina choose the filthy pool water as the ideal hiding place for them. Chikagi didn't know where she could comment, and asked what the heck was going on. Sarashina continued, saying she had seen all these people get closer to Chidori. It was so mortifying and painful to watch. She had wept. At that moment, a wizard suddenly appeared in front of her. The wizard gave her this flower as a present. Hibino was having trouble keeping up. Chikagi stated that suddenly this conversation had become very doubtful. To a dark, weak, and pathetic being like herself, a wizard had lent the power to make a wish come true. A mysterious, magical flower. Sarashina shouted a command word, and the moist, mind-controlled "zombies" quickened their steps. Hibino cried out in alarm at the increasing aggression visible in their shuffling foes. Chikagi said this was scary, and that these things kind of looked like aliens. Sarashina observed that the two of them just didn't get it, but that she, Sarashina, loved beautiful things. And strong things. So she was perfectly okay with the situation right now. Chikagi stated that she did not understand what Sarashina was saying. Hibino suddenly grabbed Chikagi. Hibino suggested that they flee the area in a hurry. Chikagi could not argue the wisdom of that approach, but said they were about to fall into the pool. Hibino observed they had been surrounded, and the only way to escape this was to dive into the water. As the water was filthy, Chikagi was against the idea of leaping into it. Hibino also told her that it wasn't time to be thinking about such things. Sarashina told them they would not escape so easily, and then told her goons to grab Chikagi and Hibino - so that they too could be affected by the flower's pollen. They both wailed, and then out of nowhere, a cat meowed and laughed. This strange being yelled "Political Situation Kick" as it lept into battle. It was Sugata Sunao, a girl who had infiltrated Chikagi's class. Sunao could carry weapons in a four-dimensional pocket, and her heavy weapons had been adjusted by Ciel. As an agent apprentice for the Holy Church, she had come to the area to look for the Triten scripture. The zombies were hit and KO'd. Sunao repeated her attacks, selecting Sarashina as her target and performing powerful professional wrestling moves against her. Hibino was surprised to see all of them taken out so quickly. Chigaki addressed the figure - could it be . . .? Sunao had told them all to be careful. Chikagi recognized her - she was that one, from that time! But she couldn't remember after everything that had happened, other than Sunao was really weird! But in any case, Sunao had returned! Hibino was very afraid of Sunao on the battlefield. Even so, she was sort of cool. Sunao, nonplussed, said that since she had just saved them, they could at least show her some courtesy by not referring to her as weird. "What are you?" asked Sarashina. Sunao threw the question right back at them. After all, they had done a lot of bad things. So Sunao was addressing the cute lady to explain everything that had happened. Sarashina uttered her command word once again, and her zombies woke up. Sarashina told Sunao she had no intention of explaining what was going on. Hibino said that the flower was beginning to emit that strong odor once again. Chikagi observed that she was growing weaker. Sunao which arrived on the battlefield recognized the flower as a type of familiar that parasitized human beings. The odor being released from the flower's main body slowed the movement of living things and suppressed their will, allowing them to be controlled by the flower's user. Sunao warned Sarashina that the flower's stink wouldn't work against her, for she was immune. Sunao also wanted to know who or what had given Sarashina the flower in the first place. Sarashina didn't know. Sunao was attacked by the crowd, but defeated them once again. Sunao was a proficient close quarters combatant, as were the others in its line of work. Sarashina was upset because her flower had been damaged by the thing, and swore she'd never forgive it. The flower in her hand began to shoot out pellets. Sunao warned her not to carelessly point the flower at her. Sarashina told Sunao not to belittle her, and fired a huge shot at her. Sunao was hit, and hurt. Sunao crashed into a wall nearby and wondered where that speed had suddenly come from. Was the flower affecting her as well? Sunao lept back into battle, and found that Sarashina dodged all of her attacks. How could these be the movements of a human girl who only recently received a familiar? Where did that woman pull out a knife? wondered Sarashina. It'd be bad if she got hit, Sarashina thought. Gotta get closer. She'd been able to avoid most of Sunao's earlier attacks. So, perhaps with this . . . "How about this?" Sarashina asked as she released a powerful blast of magical energy. Sunao's self-education blade was shattered, and then Sarashina grabbed Sunao and began to squeeze her. "People with no link to what's going on . . . need to go!" yelled Sarashina as she threw Sunao aside. Sunao stumbled and mumbled incoherently as she tried to get her footing. Hibino noted with some dismay that the strange woman had been defeated. Chikagi said that she was having trouble keeping up with what was going on. She felt as if she were being reduced to a drooling fool. The memory of Sarashina telling her that Chidori was a lovely person came back to her. Surely someone like her couldn't . . . talk to her in a relaxed, casual way. Then Chikagi asked Sarashina if she really was the Sarashina Serena that they knew. "Sarashina" told them that the pitiful, weak Sarashina they knew no longer existed. Then a mess of tendrils from the plant grabbed Chikagi and began to squeeze her. Sarashina stated that people who got in the way would be eliminated, and that she would continue from where she left off. She told Chikagi not to worry, and that she'd soon be one of Sarashina's puppets, like the other people. Chikagi told her that she had no intention of being a puppet, and that Sarashina had terrible tastes. Desperation crept back into Sarashina's voice as she talked about how awful it was to be surpassed by everyone else, and how lonely it was. No one could understand how she felt. She realized this when she finally met the wizard for the first time. Only she realized this. "What the heck are you talking about?" asked Chikagi. Sarashina explained that she had been waiting for the wizard. Although Sarashina thought she had no redeeming features, the flower had transformed her. Now she'd be able to see the same scenery as Chidori. She wouldn't have to be alone. Chikagi finally yelled at Sarashina to stop, but Sarashina told her that just yelling at her to stop would avail her naught. Chikagi pointed out that Chidori hates people who have such bothersome ways of thinking, and that she wouldn't take pity on Sarashina. In fact, from Chikagi's point of view, Sarashina had no right even to speak of Chidori. Chikagi said that Chidori was better looking that Chikagi was, and that Chidori was better at everything. She's nice to everyone. What Sarashina was doing wouldn't work. Chikagi then said she didn't want to be like Chidori, and there was no easy way to become like someone else. Sarashina said that Chikagi didn't get it, that she didn't understand Chidori's loneliness, and that Sarashina would replace Chikagi and become more like Chidori. After all, Chidori must be holding out her hand, waiting for Sarashina. Chikagi stated the obvious: that Chidori didn't even remember Sarashina. She said so. That shocked Sarashina. "That's a lie," said Sarashina, attempting to deny what she'd just heard. But although Sarashina continued to deny it, she had no conviction. Chikagi asked Sarashina that if she really believed what she had been saying, she ought to talk to Chidori to see how Chidori really felt. Sarashina was shocked. She'd remembered Chidori and had never forgotten about her. She had been doing all of this to finally be able to meet her again. She was sure that Chidori would appreciate everything she'd done. Chikagi wondered why Sarashina had always been like that - a useless shadow lurking in the dark. She told Sarashina that if she liked Chidori she should just be direct and confess to her. Even if Chidori didn't feel that way, the others would support her. "Stop it," said Sarashina in response. Chikagi pressed on, saying that even if Chidori turned her down, they could cry together as Sarashina moved on. Sarashina was just being a big dummy! Sarashina yelled for Chikagi to stop, and said that Chikagi was saying those terrible things because Chikagi hated her, and all of this was simply pretense. When Sarashina looked at herself, she only saw things she hated. Or was she like Chikagi after all? Hibino rushed forward and became entangled in the huge plant the flower had become. "Let Chikagi go!" she yelled. As Chikagi uttered a warning, Hibino rushed further into the mess, saying she would definitely rescue Chikagi. As the plant tendrils drew tighter, Chikagi told Sarashina to listen to what she was saying. Meanwhile, Sarashina was starting to doubt what she was doing - no matter who she defeated, she wouldn't get the result she wanted. More and more people would gather around Chidori. "Enough!" shouted Sarashina. Sarashina said that it'd be fine if everyone forgot about her, releasing a huge blast of energy that propelled Chikagi and Hibino backwards, into the brackish water of the pool. "Don't look down on me! How can you say these horrible things? Why didn't you tell me about this earlier!?" Her voice faded away. Chikagi woke up and realized that things weren't right. Something wasn't right with her body. Where was Hibino? She hadn't needed to tag along for this . . . Chikagi even told Hibino not to go with her to this area. Chikagi sadly observed that Hibino was an unsaveable fool. She'd even gone so far as to say that she didn't like Hibino. That wasn't right. If she could, Chikagi wanted to apologize to her. The sound of water disappeared, replaced by the quiet clacking of shoes in a hallway. Is this that dream, Chikagi wondered. The stairway comes to a stop in front of the last stop for the train. What did this mean? What was beyond the doorway? Her goal, probably. She wondered how she could open the door. She couldn't reach it. She pounded on it. This was a real problem. She'd gone to the trouble of disembarking. Wait, what was she doing? Electronics clicked on with beeps and hums, and the door unlocked itself. Meanwhile, Sunao came to. "I dropped my guard," she said. She had come to do reconnaissance, but became involved in a battle and everything went south. Sunao lost all her equipment. Sunao had even taken care of the flower woman, although with more difficulty than the curry woman had said the job would entail. Sunao noticed a strange glow in the area and wondered what it was. Chikagi realized that the pool itself was glowing. What was this? She was starting to get a bad feeling about this. The water turned rigid, then exploded as something pushed up from within. It was Chikagi and Sunao. Even so, they looked different. Sunao heard Hibino tell it to look after Chikagi. Sunao said that she understood, but it did not know who gave it this order. Meanwhile, Sarashina was regaining consciousness. She saw Hibino and recognized her as the dimwitted girl who was with Chikagi earlier. However, Hibino looked different now. [TL Note: Hibino is using Caubac Alcatraz's legendary scripture Triten. When she utilizes this scripture, most of her capabilities are elevated. She also becomes calmer, and uses the masculine pronoun "boku" to refer to herself.] Sarashina asked if the Sunao was their ally from before. Sarashina wondered aloud just what was the magician who gifted her with the flower earlier. The one who told her that there was another world that she didn't know about. Sunao spoke to Sarashina, telling her that what she wanted wasn't down the path she was walking. Her loneliness would not attract that strong girl. Sarashina had to open her consciousness. Upon hearing this, Sarashina denied being lonely, and said she didn't need Chidori anymore. After all, now that she had the flower, no one would be able to forget about her. Sunao then asked if that would be enough to fill the void inside Sarashina. Sarashina couldn't just brush aside this insightful observation. For some years, she had been deceived. There was a burst of magical energy, causing Sunao to express surprise. Sarashina activated the flower once again, asking it to deceive her targets. The thing wondered what the heck was this. In front of Sarashina, the stars were starting to disappear from the sky and fall. "Fall!" yelled Sarashina. But the falling stars couldn't grab Sunao and then disappear. In fact, it looked like Sunao was touching them with her hand and then making them disappear. The thing warned that what was at the end of Sarashina's arm was dangerous. Hibino's voice, larger than life and ethereal, said that things were going to be fine. The thing asked what Hibino was doing by throwing herself into the mix. Sarashina continued releasing energy, warning her opponents not to come any closer to her, but even the variety of attacks she was making were ineffective. Sunao noted that Sarashina was causing her arm carrying the flower to transform. "That's no good!" said Hibino. Sarashina was in agony, but told the flower "That's good. So long as I have the power . . . even I can . . . " Hibino's voice, ethereal, noted that the flower was eating into Sarashina's own body. She needed to stop using the flower. Sarashina didn't want to stop, she hadn't gotten any reward for what she had done so far. It didn't matter. She uttered the power word to draw on the flower again, telling it to take everything she had. Hibino's voice, altered, said that she couldn't allow Sarashina to do that. After a terrible crash, Sarashina moaned in pain. The regeneration couldn't keep up with what was happening. Sarashina tried to wake up her former puppets, telling them to grab the people steadily approaching her. Then in that moment, all the pollen from the flower became inert. What was this? What was this insane power? Hibino drew closer, telling her to stop. After all, even Sarashina herself disliked this. Sarashina, deranged, said that so long as she had the magical flower, she had everything she needed. Hibino told her she didn't need it anymore. A spell came into effect, restoring Sarashina's body to its former state. Hibino told Sarashina that someday she'd find something that could fill the void in her soul, so to help her, Hibino would set her free. Sarashina, despondent, said that she didn't want that. She was fine the way she was. She began to walk away. Sunao asked her if she thought she could just walk away from this, but Sarashina said she wasn't. Sunao also said that it would be a bother of Sarashina ignored the problem. Hibino said that she did not think that Sarashina would cause anymore trouble. Sunao declared that Hibino was being too kind. Hibino couldn't refute that argument. Sunao also asked if Hibino was really _that_. "That?" What did Sunao mean when she called Hibino "that"? Sunao timidly asked if she were a construct - but then dropped the subject entirely. Sunao then declared she was going to check on Sarashina, but asked Hibino to look after her. Sunao was going to cast a memory manipulation spell, leaving Chikagi without much recollection of what happened. Hibino agreed. Sunao cast the spell and then brushed her clothes off. The supervisor vampire thing from the Holy Church created holy scriptures. By their existence alone, they were haphazard and unsystematic. By now, Sunao shouldn't be surprised by any one of them. But why was Hibino able to control the power of that scripture? Or was it really that scripture? She really wanted to investigate this further. Sunao also wanted to find whoever built that dangerous flower. There was so much to report this time, but she wasn't even close to being done. Things were starting to become very exciting. She laughed as she continued to walk down the path. Then she tripped and fell in a large body of water. A metal door unlocked. Sunao exclaimed that she had found a wizard's room, the kind you'd see in children's picture book. This was an amazing discovery. Something amazing and delicious- looking was inside a sphere. It was beautiful. For some reason, looking at it made you feel warm. It made a strange noise. Did that mean that someone was calling for Chikagi? Meanwhile, elsewhere . . . Chikagi rubbed her eyes as she slowly came to. "Are you coming to your senses?" asked Hibino. Birds around them were chirping, indicating that the morning sun had vanquished the horrible night. "Why am I here?" asked Chikagi. She was certain that she had gone to the school pool last night . . . After that, what happened? Suddenly, Chikagi grabbed Hibino. Was she all right? No injuries? Hibino assured Chikagi that she was fine, and then Chikagi pushed her away. "Why are you being mean all of a sudden?" asked Hibino. Was there something else? Oh yes, thought Chikagi. What about Sarashina? What had happened to her? There was something weird attached to her arm. What happened after that? Hibino told Chikagi that Sarashina never came to the pool last night. After all, Chikagi came to the place on time, but no one showed, and then she had to wait all that time, and then Chikagi got tired and fell asleep. Didn't she remember that? Chikagi blanched. But weren't Mayuzumi and the others. . .? Hibino piped up. She'd just heard that Mayuzumi finally made it back home. That was what she heard over the phone a while ago. Chikagi was surprised. Did that mean she had dreamed the whole thing? Hibino asked her what kind of dream she had. Chikagi was shocked to realize that she had an overactive imagination. Chikagi then asked Hibino why she was here. Hibino answered that she was here to wake up Chikagi. Chikagi was surprised. Did that mean Hibino stayed here the whole night just to do that? Hibino said it'd be lonely for Chikagi to wake up with no one else around. Chikagi said that was dumb. Hibino laughed and said that Chikagi's sleeping face was cute. Chikagi got embarrassed and said that Hibino was acting dumb! Why did she suddenly say stuff like that? Hibino laughed and said that Chikagi seemed a little different than usual. Chikagi tried to deny it, chalking it up to Hibino's imagination. Hibino said that Chikagi was putting up a front. Chikagi observed that it was too late for her to try that. All right, she'd give in. Maybe she was off her game more than usual. Hibino agreed, and then asked her why. Maybe it was because Chikagi was worrying too much about other people. When someone talked to her, she wondered if that person would see her as someone different than what she wanted to be. She hated feeling self-conscious about that. Even though Sarashina had never come to the meet-up spot, Chikagi still had thought that she'd be better off alone. So why was Chikagi telling Hibino all of this? She had never told anyone else about how she felt. Hibino said that she had been watching Chikagi. Hibino said that looking at Chikagi now rather than just how she appeared in the classroom gave her a different feeling - and a very good one. She thought that Chikagi right now was cuter than the composed Chikagi in the classroom. Chikagi got embarrassed and asked her to cut it out. In fact, she shouldn't keep calling her "Chikagi-chan, Chikagi-chan"! Hibino apologized and went back to calling Chikagi by her surname, but admitted that no matter how much she was told not to do that, she still couldn't seem to stop. "But Chikagi-chan, I'll work hard to call you Katsuragi-san from now on!" Hibino said enthusiastically. Whoops, she had screwed up once again. Chikagi said it was all right. She would let Hibino call her Chikagi-chan. Hibino was overjoyed, and again asked for confirmation. Chikagi got exasperated and told her to stop making her say it over and over again, because it was embarrassing. However, in exchange she wanted to use "Hibiki" to refer to Hibino. Hibino was overjoyed, and gladly gave consent. Chikagi didn't understand why Hibino was so glad, and wondered what she'd say to her classmates. Maybe she could tell them that she just got tired of correcting Hibino. Not that her personality had suddenly changed. Then Hibino said that she had a great idea. Chikagi said that she already was dreading what Hibino was going to say, but asked her what the great idea was. Hibino whispered into Chikagi's ear. Chikagi was mortified and turned beet red. Hibino was proud of herself and said it was an awesome idea, wasn't it? Chikagi got mad and told her she couldn't act in such an embarrassing way. Hibino said she thought it was a really good idea. The recording faded out as the two continued to debate the fine points of this good idea. Chikagi's narration began again. As for what happened next . . . Back at the classroom, Mayuzumi said good morning to Kureida. Mayuzumi said the police asked her a lot of questions, and she also had been checked out by a doctor. She had no recollection of what happened during the "missing time". She only knew that she had been recovered yesterday. How odd, observed Kureida. The news media hadn't even bothered to cover it. Although, Kureida said contentedly, it was better if it all turned out to be nothing in the end. Mayuzumi asked what people had done during her absence. Chikagi had worried about her. Kureida hmm'd and aww'd and then smiled. Katsuragi did that? Kureida said that Mayuzumi had surprised them a bit. The classroom door opened and then Hibino dashed in. She noticed that Mayuzumi was present and then called out for Katsuragi to enter. Chikagi got embarrassed and told Hibino to switch back to the normal way of addressing Chikagi. Chikagi did, and then Mayuzumi was surprised - Katsuragi's hairstyle was different! It was in twintails! Hibino was happy. The boys and girls in the class were impressed and talked about how much better this look was for her. One classmate said it went against her cool feeling, but another said this was better because they were living in the age of moe. As they cheered Katsuragi, Hibino said this was proof her idea was correct. Chikagi did look better with this hairstyle. After all, it was really cute! Chikagi got so mad that she rushed out of class as their homeroom teacher walked in - "What are you doing? Pipe down." Then the teacher, Kuroi Kibou, apologized to the new transfer student, a blonde-haired girl called Sugata Sunao. Sugata said she didn't mind and said she'd rush into the noisy class. Meanwhile, Hibino raced after Katsuragi in the hallway. Hibino said the new look was a total success. Chikagi got flustered and said that she didn't like Hibino after all! Later, Chikagi was walking home. She said she didn't like how her class played with people's feelings, especially Mayuzumi's, who had just come back to school. That Hibiki had gotten her good - she'd have to pay her back in some way. Chikagi walked past Sarashina, who told her that her new hairstyle looked good. Upon hearing that, Chikagi came to a full stop. Sarashina asked if she could sit near Chikagi, who said it was no problem. "It's been a while," said Chikagi. "I heard that you took some time off from school." Sarashina said that for some reason, Chikagi's character seemed a little different. Chikagi said that she felt uncomfortable when people asked her questions related to that. Sarashina said that she had come to apologize to Chikagi. "What for?" asked Chikagi. "A lot." was the answer. Yes, it had been a lot. Chikagi was very surprised to hear Sarashina use the word 'apologize', let alone do so. Something that seemed really important to Sarashina now seemed trivial - no, like something in the ancient past, long forgotten by now. But while she was struggling with it, she flailed about and ended up hurting a lot of people, including Chikagi. Chikagi said she didn't get where this was coming from, and wondered if Sarashina was thinking up some kind of strange scheme. Sarashina assured her that she was totally serious. But perhaps there was nothing to be done. What was done was what happened. Chikagi had no response to that. "Anyway, that's what I came here to do," explained Sarashina. And then Sarashina took her leave, while saying she hoped that the two would meet again somewhere, someday. Chikagi said they'd meet again, for they went to the same school. Then Sarashina said "Chikagi, why don't we become friends? We'll start from zero." Chigaki jokingly refused, then said she would think about it (in a playful way). Sarashina thanked her. Then Hibino's voice called out from afar. "Chika-chaaaan! Where are you?" Chika stood up, exclaiming that she had a promise to keep with Hibino. "A promise?" inquired Sarashina. "Yes, a promise to do a part-time job together," said Chikagi. A friend of Chikagi's had some kind of establishment, so the two of them were going there today. Sarashina brightened, saying that Chikagi must be good friends with her soon-to-be co-worker. Chikagi tried to deny it. Sarashina guessed that her good friend was Hibino, and said she was a very good person, although she wasn't the sort of person Sarashina would get along well with. However, Hibino was surely well-suited for Chikagi, according to Sarashina. Chikagi tried to deny it, but Sarashina cut her off and then bid her farewell. Hibino rushed up, saying she had finally found Chikagi after looking for her for a long time. Chikagi said she did this to help Hibino, who had accepted the job. Hibino, head in the clouds as always, spied Sarashina in the distance. Chikagi confirmed that it was, and explained that Sarashina had stopped to apologize. Hibino accepted this, and Chikagi jumped up, stretched, and said they needed to get going. After all, they needed to introduce themselves to everyone else who was at the shop when they started the part-time job. Hibino agreed, and in an extremely excited voice, said that the cafe where they were going had a great atmosphere. The two dashed off, with Chikagi in tow. As the transition from one scene to another proceeded, Chikagi told her not to pull so hard. Chikagi's narration resumed. For some reason, she had become an important person to Sarashina, who she had seen in a very odd dream. She'd have to talk more with her later on, she thought. After that, she didn't see Sarashina. Sarashina stopped going to school, and she didn't return to her home. She was the last student to go missing in the case of disappearing students. Chikagi wondered where Sarashina had disappeared to. She had no way of knowing. CUE END SONG As the two opened the door, the bell attached to it rang. Hibino observed that no one was in. Chikagi doubtfully asked if this was the staff's day off. Hibino said she didn't think that was the case, and then asked Chikagi to wait a bit here. Chikagi said that was fine, as she didn't have any other things to do that day. Hibino moved a few things and said that it was a beautiful-looking cafe! The soft ticking of the wall clock added to the ambiance of the place. Chikagi said that she didn't mind this cafe, and that it made her feel relaxed for some reason. Or perhaps she would say that it made her feel nostalgic. Nostalgic? queried Hibino. Chikagi couldn't explain why she felt nostalgia while she was in this place. Hibino laughed upon hearing that, and then Chikagi said she didn't understand that reaction and that Hibino was strange. Hibino then brightened, remembering that Chikagi's birthday was this week. Chikagi was very surprised. Why did Hibino know that? It turned out that she had heard it from Mayuzumi. Chikagi then tried to figure out how Mayuzumi knew before being interrupted by Hibino. Hibino suggested that they have a birthday party for Chikagi right here in the cafe. They could invite Kureida, Mayuzumi, and Sugata (who had just transferred in that day). Chikagi stiffened and said not to invite Sugata. Apparently Sugata made her feel very odd for some reason. And oddly, Chikagi felt like she had met Sugata before somewhere. Where was it? Hibino seemed let down, saying that she thought it was going to be an exciting and fun time. Chikagi attempted to head off the conversation, saying she didn't have to go that far. Besides, this is where they were going to work. It'd be better to not do embarrassing things there. Hibino would have none of that! After all, it was Chikagi's birthday they were talking about. They had to have a proper party! Chikagi still seemed nervous - she wasn't used to this kind of thing. That's when a phone rang. It was the beep beep beep noise that cellular phones make. Chikagi asked if that was Hibino's keitai (cell phone), but it wasn't. It was coming from a keitai on the counter. But had one been there before? The phone continued ringing. Hibino hadn't seen it there either. Had she? The keitai unfolded and began to speak, boasting that it had pulled one over on them. "Welcome to the Ahnenerbe!" Oh, that was a bad take! One more time! Keitai-san tried once again to say the line. As the keitai continued to act in a bizarre way, both Chikagi and Hibino said "What the heck is thiiiiiissss!?" in unison.
